We have seen a lot of Back to the Future ...

We have seen a lot of Back to the Future DeLorean DMC-12 imitation going through halls of internet. Back then, we always assumed that the original film car got tucked safely somewhere in museum. But now it seems that isn’t the case. Of all automobiles made for 3 movies, most comprehensive hero automobile, also known as A Car, was on display on out side. Ensuing suffering years in elements were not really kind to DMC-12, & Bob Gale, the co-writer in BTTF chronicle, is working for having this automobile restored completely to the original condition.

J Ryan, Joe Walser, & Terry Matalas are right now working for getting this automobile back to the former glory. However, there is some help needed for the project. Craftsmen might not need the roads where they are going, but need people having photos of original A Car or the parts from the film DeLorean models for reaching out through e-mail or the Facebook page of restoration.

If you are searching for fan favorite at Auto Show ...

If you are searching for fan favorite at Auto Show of Cleveland, then check out South Hall. That is the place where all classic vehicles are placed. There are automobiles from the year 1930 to 1984.

Royce Acevedo, from Cleveland says that it is remiscent of the older days. Mike Austin from Chicago, Illinois says that these autmobiles bring back the memories for friends and brothers. Walking through South Hall of I-X Center at Auto Show is just like taking a small stroll down the memory lane.

William Rickard, who is car-enthusiast Strongsville says that Chevy was Chevy and nothing can beat it. The newer cars can’t match all that. All the automobils that are shown here are from different eras including 40s, 50s, and the 60s.

It is really amazing that we have come a a long way as society in autmobiles. The cars here are older by 25 years or more.

Some cars are restored meticulously and some are having status of street rod this means which means that it isn’t recreating the past but is creating a really neat looking autmobile.

One of the classic cars will be costing pretty penny and the difference is huge considering the price that they had way back then. In the older days, the cost of the automobiles was $3,000 to $,4,000 but now that has increased manifold.

Looking at these cars, they define what we were back then and how we lived our life. There is a story behind every car.

Austin said that the 1st sports car that he ever got was from his father and the car nearly cost his father a divorce. But the car was pretty cool and Austin said it was worth all the money.

Acevedo says that these automobiles are drastically different from what we have today and the future cars too will be different from them. You can visit this auto show to take a look at the cars.

Headquarters & production of Jaguar were previously located at Conventry in Browns Lane for above 50 years. A part of complex had Jaguar Heritage Museum along with the 150 cars collection and hence when site of Browns Lane got sold in the year 2007 to a developer from Australia, the count down started on remaining time of the museum.

There is a formal announcement now made that this collection will be vacating its spot in the month of September and we are worried that its next location might not be open to public access. Reps of museum are saying that this collection will be in circulation, either at historical circuit – something like Goodwood or through loan for the other museums. Jaguar Heritage Museum still has around 30 vehicles on-the-site.

That said, till there is one more location secured, you will not able to go there, get a ticket and stroll amongst automobiles like 1950 Jaguar XK 120 NUB 120, 1935 SS Airline AWR 564, or the 1956 Jaguar D-type ‘Long Nose’ 393 RW. Also, you will be missing the “Shaguar” ‘Austin Powers’ if it is something that you like.

For a long time, British Rolls-Royce has been known as ...

For a long time, British Rolls-Royce has been known as best car company. Some might debate that but there is no deny the fact that Rolls is amongst the finest. One model which originally established this reputation was Silver Ghost.

In the year 1904, Royce Ltd. from Manchester, England, the makers of generators & electric motors, announced that they will be making gasoline engine automobiles. Henry Royce was self-taught and meticulous engineer and there was a lot of attention and care reflected in his products.

However, he was more of a craftsman and was more comfortable in improving & designing his cars rather than marketing. We was looking for enthusiastic salesman for convincing buyers of the engineering excellence of this cars.

This is where Charles Stewart Rolls came in to the scene. He was born to aristocracy and was 3rd son of a very intrepid adventurer – Lord Llangattock. Rolls was early balloon pilot & one of first to welcome airplane Wright brothers’ in Europe (he later died in plane accident, aged 32 in the year 1910.) Automobiles were his passion and later he went on to be prominent automobile racer in the European continent.

Rolls had been selling the French Panhards at London and a friend urged him to travel to Manchester in the year 1904 for meeting Royce to see what he had built. Rolls was pretty impressed with all the cars and he agreed to work with Royce. There was an agreement made – Royce would be building the automobiles and Rolls would market them.

For becoming motor manufacturer Rolls-Royce made several 4 and 6 cylinder models, and also V8. For the year, 1907 this company adopted a 1-model policy as it would let them concentrate of resources instead of spreading them to a lot of different models. This was what propelled Henry Ford to get success through the Model T.

Model 40/50, also known as Silver Ghost, was chosen looking at its very quiet running. It first made a debut at Olympia Motor Show in the year 1906 as model of 1907. The Ghost was big automobile having 3,429mm wheel base & 1,671-kg weight. Power came courtesy of seven litre inline, six-cylinder side-valve engine having 48 of horsepower at just 1,200 rpm. Ultra-high 4th gear combined along with big wheels permitted big 6 to loaf at just 1,000rpm @ 76 km per hour, figure that rarely was achieved by the modern cars back then.

For demonstrating new model’s quality of engineering that was taken on reliability run of 3,220 km which had driving from England’s south coast to top of high gear in Scotland. Tests were conducted under scrutiny of Royal Automobile Club.

Ghost completed its run very successfully, but for demonstrating its durability further it was sent on 24,150 km test immediately and was driven by Charles Rolls. It was completed without any stops except for the changes of tire, breaking world record for long distance and reliability. Engineers at RAC then stripped Silver Ghost for the amount of deterioration that it had. Amazingly, the micrometers couldn’t detect any wear to the engine, transmission, steering gear, or brakes.

All such exploits established the reputation Rolls-Royce nearly overnight & Silver Ghost started selling well. Ghost was manufactured from the year 1907 – 1925, and there were around 6,000 units produced, including a few made at Springfield in Massachusetts.

Ghost was made for a lot of years and it cemented the reputation that Rolls-Royce’s was the maker of best car in world between 1907 and beginning of First World War at 1914.

It might seem unbelievable to you , but original Silver Ghost car is still there. This automobile used by different company officials in 1907 & part of the year 1908 and then it was sold to A.M. Hanbury – a traveling inspector at Rolls-Royce. He accumulated something more than 805,000 km.

Hanbury then retired & in 1947 Rolls-Royce received message from son-in-law saying a few spare parts were required for Ghost. Hanbury had died before this transaction went through, but Rolls-Royce were aware of this car’s location and got it from heirs.

Much restoration & repair was need but Rolls-Royce managed to get it working again. It is now serving as “working car” good will ambassador for this company since then and has run for over 966,000 km.

Germany’s BMW bought Rolls-Royce and now are the proud owners of first Silver Ghost. It is said that BMW keeping faith, & keeping venerable Ghost worthy of driving on roads. It isn’t just sitting in a museum as an exhibit. If Henry Royce & Charles Rolls had been alive, they wouldn’t have asked for more than this.

Thinking about the older Volvos, the first things that comes to the mind is boxy designs which were way different than the curvaceous ones that we see today. Some might think about the 850 or 240. On the other side, some might picture the 760 which has a Swedish squared off design.

This model turns thirty years of age in this month and it was credited for saving Volvo. This car was first introduced in the month of February in 1982. Volvo is looking at development of 760 when it need an automobile which would be efficient, reliable, easily serviceable, durable, quiet, and attractive, and a good performer. Result was rear drive sedan which was longer by four inches in the wheel base as compared to 240 still lighter by 220 lbs.

What about the boxy design? This design was both stylistic and nature. Considering the different proposals of design, this was the final look which got selected as it was cost effective for production. The restrictions about budget were the main reason why this design couldn’t be more ambitious. If you see the car, you will see that it isn’t something that will take your breath away but still is a pretty classic design which was very popular in those days.
