Rare Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato sold for a record price
With just 4 Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato Sanction IIs ever made, when 1 hit an auction block over weekend it had represented once-in-life time opportunity for some one to take the ownership of 1 of rarest DB4s in the existence. It perhaps isn’t really surprising to hear that the bidding for car was really ferocious, ending along with world record bid for DB4 of about £1.23 million (about $2 million) @ Bonhams auction of Aston Martin Works, held at Newport Pagnell in England.
When Zagato and Aston Martin had 1st collaborated, result was production run of about 19 cars that were built in between 1961 & 1963. About 23 were planned originally & so chassis for every one that was completed. After 30 years later, & project that is factory-approved was launched in the year 1987 for refurbishing 4 chassis that were untouched, along with famous specialist of Aston Martin – Richard Williams commissioned for taking it on. Zagato built exquisite bodies with same specs of original nineteen & these cars got dubbed as ‘Sanction II,’ which is a term from the early history of motoring which was replaced later by ‘Mark.’

All the 4 Sanction II automobiles had engine that is built to 4.2-liter specs rated @ 352hp, whereas original got fitted along with 302 hp 3.7 liters unit. They came along with 4 speed manual ‘David Brown’ transmission, disc brakes & limited-slip differential. 0-60 mph got clocked @ 5.5 seconds & the top speed is about 153 mph which is claimed by the manufacturer. If you really love the car but not the big price tag, consider going to company like Evanta, which recently transformed 2001 DB7 Vantage in to vintage DB4 GT Zagato which had sold in.
